Six and a half years after Black Friday, Ray Bitar reappeared in the news this week. The title of the BBC article reporting the incident started with “Full Tilt Poker scam,” and the report went on to describe £9.5 million that was laundered by Bitar through the island of Guernsey and then returned to the United States.
When the repayment process for former Full Tilt Poker players finished processing claims in 2016 and early 2017, many in the poker community hoped it was the last they would hear about the online poker operator and its crimes, mismanagement, mistakes, indictments, and schemes. While some figures from the Full Tilt era keep reappearing – as in Chris Ferguson playing enough World Series of Poker tournaments in 2017 to become the Player of the Year – Bitar was not a name anyone expected to hear.
Yet here we are.Money Laundering Fail
The US Department of Justice knew that Bitar hid money in various places around the world to avoid its seizure when he was convicted and sentenced. The problem seemed to be that he did a good job of hiding or laundering it through inconspicuous channels.
That led the US Department of Treasury to sign deals with several nations, including Guernsey, to help detect monies that were laundered or otherwise stored by or for offshore companies and targeted by criminals. In particular, the US and Guernsey signed an agreement in 2015 to share any found finances.
Guernsey did just that. They discovered £10.6 million (nearly $14.3 million) laundered through Guernsey, part of the Channel Islands in the English Channel and off the coast of France, of which £9.5 million was said to belong to Bitar. That total amount was shared with the US per the 2015 agreement, as the BBC reported the money related to Full Tilt Poker and another case.
Authorities in Guernsey seized bank accounts and financial records from 2012 to 2015 to help discover and seize the funds. The island’s attorney general, Megan Pullum QC, noted the dedication and persistence of her authorities as well as the value of cross-country partnerships.Full Tilt Fail
When the Black Friday indictments were handed down and cases were prosecuted, Bitar emerged as the evilest of the villains. Bitar was the CEO of Full Tilt Poker and one of several company directors and defendants accused of fraud and money laundering in the Full Tilt “Ponzi scheme,” as labeled by the United States Department of Justice, but Bitar was widely believed to be the main person behind any intentional mismanagement of player funds.

Bitar eventually reached a deal with prosecutors in 2013 to plead guilty to unlawful internet gambling and conspiracy to commit bank fraud and wire fraud. He admitted to working with others to defraud online poker customers of Full Tilt by lying about the security of their funds, falsely stating that their money was segregated from operating money, all while accepting payments from those accounts. This plea deal was announced on April 15, 2013, exactly two years after the seizure of US-facing online poker sites.
Part of the plea deal was an agreement that Bitar would forfeit $40 million in cash and property. He was sentenced to time served and avoided more prison time due to a supposed heart condition that put him in desperate need of a heart transplant to survive.
Since that time, no one has been able to confirm a heart transplant or any type of deteriorating health as his attorneys claimed was inevitable.

For an event loop use boost::asio::io_service. You can post tasks inside this object and have another thread execute them, in a thread safe way:

When a Qt application starts, only one thread is running—the main thread. This is the only thread that is allowed to create the QApplication or QCoreApplication object and call exec() on it. After the call to exec(), this thread is either waiting for an event or processing an event.
The main thread can start new threads by creating objects of a QThread subclass, as we did in the previous section. If these new threads need to communicate among themselves, they can use shared variables together with mutexes, read-write locks, semaphores, or wait conditions. But none of these techniques can be used to communicate with the main thread, since they would lock the event loop and freeze the user interface.
The solution for communicating from a secondary thread to the main thread is to use signal–slot connections across threads. Normally, the signals and slots mechanism operates synchronously, meaning that the slots connected to a signal are invoked immediately when the signal is emitted, using a direct function call.
However, when we connect objects that ’live’ in different threads, the mechanism becomes asynchronous. (This behavior can be changed through an optional fifth parameter to QObject::connect().) Behind the scenes, these connections are implemented by posting an event. The slot is then called by the event loop of the thread in which the receiver object exists. By default, a QObject exists in the thread in which it was created; this can be changed at any time by calling QObject::moveToThread().
To illustrate how signal–slot connections across threads work, we will review the code of the Image Pro application, a basic image processing application that allows the user to rotate, resize, and change the color depth of an image. The application (shown in Figure 14.3), uses one secondary thread to perform operations on images without locking the event loop. This makes a significant difference when processing very large images. The secondary thread has a list of tasks, or ’transactions’, to accomplish and sends events to the main window to report progress.

The flipHorizontally() slot creates a ’flip’ transaction and registers it using the private function addTransaction(). The flipVertically(), resizeImage(), convertTo32Bit(), convertTo8Bit(), and convertTo1Bit() functions are similar.
The addTransaction() function adds a transaction to the secondary thread’s transaction queue and disables the Open, Save, and Save As actions while transactions are being processed.
The allTransactionsDone() slot is called when the TransactionThread’s transaction queue becomes empty.
Now, let’s turn to the TransactionThread class. Like most QThread subclasses, it is somewhat tricky to implement, because the run() function executes in its own thread, whereas the other functions (including the constructor and the destructor) are called from the main thread. The class definition follows:
The TransactionThread class maintains a queue of transactions to process and executes them one after the other in the background. In the private section, we declare four member variables:
*currentImage holds the image onto which the transactions are applied.
*transactions is the queue of pending transactions.
*transactionAdded is a wait condition that is used to wake up the thread when a new transaction has been added to the queue.
*mutex is used to protect the currentImage and transactions member variables against concurrent access.
Here is the class’s constructor:
In the constructor, we simply call QThread::start() to launch the thread that will execute the transactions.
In the destructor, we empty the transaction queue and add a special EndTransaction marker to the queue. Then we wake up the thread and wait for it to finish using QThread::wait(), before the base class’s destructor is implicitly invoked. Failing to call wait() would most probably result in a crash when the thread tries to access the class’s member variables.
The QMutexLocker’s destructor unlocks the mutex at the end of the inner block, just before the wait() call. It is important to unlock the mutex before calling wait(); otherwise, the program could end up in a deadlock situation, where the secondary thread waits forever for the mutex to be unlocked, and the main thread holds the mutex and waits for the secondary thread to finish before proceeding.
The addTransaction() function adds a transaction to the transaction queue and wakes up the transaction thread if it isn’t already running. All accesses to the transactions member variable are protected by a mutex, because the main thread might modify them through addTransaction() at the same time as the secondary thread is iterating over transactions.
The setImage() and image() functions allow the main thread to set the image on which the transactions should be performed, and to retrieve the resulting image once all the transactions are done.Qt Execute Slot In Another Thread
The run() function goes through the transaction queue and executes each transaction in turn by calling apply() on them, until it reaches the EndTransaction marker. If the transaction queue is empty, the thread waits on the ’transaction added’ condition.
Just before we execute a transaction, we emit the transactionStarted() signal with a message to display in the application’s status bar. When all the transactions have finished processing, we emit the allTransactionsDone() signal.
The Transaction class is an abstract base class for operations that the user can perform on an image. The virtual destructor is necessary because we need to delete instances of Transaction subclasses through a Transaction pointer. Transaction has three concrete subclasses: FlipTransaction, ResizeTransaction, and ConvertDepthTransaction. We will only review FlipTransaction; the other two classes are similar.
The FlipTransaction constructor takes one parameter that specifies the orientation of the flip (horizontal or vertical).
The apply() function calls QImage::mirrored() on the QImage it receives as a parameter and returns the resulting QImage.Qt Call Slot From Another Thread Set
The message() function returns the message to display in the status bar while the operation is in progress. This function is called in TransactionThread::run() when emitting the transactionStarted() signal.
The Image Pro application shows how Qt’s signals and slots mechanism makes it easy to communicate with the main thread from a secondary thread. Implementing the secondary thread is trickier, because we must protect our member variables using a mutex, and we must put the thread to sleep and wake it up appropriately using a wait condition. Governor of Poker is a great old-west themed poker game. Your goal is to win enough money to buy entire towns and move on to the next. You will play against a variety of computer opponents that each have their own habits and tells. You will be able to compete in tournaments or cash games to earn your way and own every city in Texas. Start With Limited Resources and See How Far You Can Go
You begin with $600 and a house in San Saba, Texas, where the game of choice is of course Texas Hold ’em. Unfortunately Texas Hold ’em is the only game you can play. At first you will only be able to compete in tournaments that have prize money. After you have gained some reputation you will be able to compete in cash games where you can bet and win houses. After you have purchased all the houses you will have to find a way to the next town.
In the first town you will have to win a horse in a one vs one poker match against Ron Dixie, the best player in town. There are several computer opponents that you will have to play against and they each are unique in their play style. If you watch them all closely, you will be able to know when they are bluffing or have a hot hand. Play Quick Poker or Campaign Mode
There are two ways to play Governor of Poker: Quick poker and the campaign mode. Quick poker puts you straight into the action and leaves out the property buying. The campaign lets you win money, buy properties and eventually own all of Texas. In all modes you can select the difficulty from easy to hard. This lets less experienced players learn the game and still have fun playing.
Each town will have a varying number of properties to buy. Properties generate small amounts of money every day to supplement your poker winnings. There are two ways to play poker in the campaign mode: tournaments or cash games. Tournaments require a buy in and that you remain until eliminated. The top finishers in the tournament win a cash prize, not the chips they were holding. Cash games can be left at any time and you will keep the chips you have. It is also possible to bet and win properties in a cash game. Cool Claymation Graphics
The graphics in Governor of Poker are claymation in style. The overhead view of the table is funny because all you see of people is their large cowboy hats and arms. The graphics add a humorous aspect to the game. The sound is great, you can even hear background noise like you are really in an old-west saloon. All-in-all the developers did a great job with the graphics and sound, it really adds to the game experience. Poker and Real Estate?
Buying houses is an interesting way to progress through the game but they really don’t add much to the game. It is possible to bet houses but only at a reduced value. The money generated from houses is also minimal compared to the amount of money it takes to get into a poker match. It would have been nicer if the houses contributed a substantial amount of money towards playing poker in tournaments. Conclusion - An Excellent Poker Game
Governor of Poker does a great job of presenting a poker game and adding a little extra to make it that much better. You can skip all the extra and play quick games or enjoy buying towns and taking over Texas. Different difficulty settings make it so poker players of all levels can play and learn. I live in Carson City, Nevada, so I hear ya cluckin’! I got into the same scrape when I moved here. All those shiny lights and bells are mesmerizing! Here’s how I survived: First, avoid the casinos at nearly all costs. If you can, have your checks automatically deposited into your checking account so you’re not tempted to cash them at a casino. Second, if you do love to gamble, take only as much as you’re willing to lose, your driver’s license and your SS card ONLY, no debit or credit cards and play until you run out or are ahead and leave. It’s not a way to make money, and the house always wins. It’s a form of entertainment, like going to the movies or seeing a show.As for hobbies: find things that keep your hands busy. Scrapbooking, knitting, crocheting, needlepoint, baking...Try several things to find one you like. Sometimes perusing the aisles at a craft store will give you some ideas. I agree with the other post. By getting in a healthy group of activites with people you not only make friends to keep your mind body & soul you do not waste your money and your rewards are many. Most classes of the crafts mentioned above are very low cost like 10-$15 some even free as long as you provide your supplies. Your money is not wasted because after the classes are over, in your spare time, you make what you have learned as a side job and earn more money.
My daughter & I took a cake decorating class and we loved it. I now make my own cakes and do not have to buy bakery cakes. We found our cake classes at our local vocational school. They offer many classes all through the year for all ages. You could plan your months activities ahead of time for different classes and be busy all the time to avoid that no end temptation of gambling. I joined a line dance class at one of the Clark County centers and loved it so much I became an instructor. It is a great way to stay in shape, meet nice people and laugh a lot. (By the way,I had never done line dancing previously!)There are so many classes available, yoga, pilates, etc. at these centers both in LV and Henderson. First of all find a house of worship and attend regularly. Many churches have women’s groups that you can join. Find gambler’s anonymous in your area and get some help.Start doing arts and crafts such as sewing, kitting, crocheting or take a cake decorating class. Gambling isn’t entertainment - actually, it’s giving you a legal ’high’.Once you understand that, you’ll see that your brain wants and likes that ’high’ and the more you do the more you need to do. The opposite of a casino seems to me to be fresh air and exercise. Go to your local library, check out the exercise tapes, learn which style of body movement you like, and do something healthy every day. Rodney Yee has some wonderful beginning yoga tapes & dvd’s and Tai Chi and Chi Kung are a different, but intense form of exercise that don’t involve contortions. Watch some TV (record a soap - I like All My Children - Carol Burnett’s favorite from years ago), and if you want to keep away from the casinos and develop a craft that is even more addictive, try beading or plastic canvas. Supplies are available at your local craft stores, inexpensive to $ and you can even visit them on ebay and join a Yahoo group..-----------You might be surprised to learn that casinos aren’t really all that attractive. Stinky, germy, lights that trigger migraines, bad food... did I leave anything out?I really don’t like them. When we went to a local one, I sat in the car for one hour midway just to relax my headache and get away from the smoke.However, I can’t keep away from chocolate.None of us is perfect. Building and flying radio control airplanes works for me. If the building part doesn’t interest you they are available already built. The mental concentration required to fly one is VERY intense and makes everything else go away. Simple ones can be bought for as little as $100, and of course there is no upper limit.

The Margaritaville Casino and Restaurant is a closed casino and restaurant in Biloxi, Mississippi in the United States. The 68,000-square-foot (6,300 m2) property is in the ’Back Bay’ area of Biloxi.[1] It opened on May 22, 2012 and closed on September 15, 2014. Its brand was licensed from Jimmy Buffett’s Margaritaville.History[edit]
Jimmy Buffett, a native of nearby Pascagoula, tried to bring the Margaritaville brand to Biloxi as early as 2000, when discussions were held on building a hotel and amphitheater on 12 acres of beachfront land between the Casino Magic and Grand Casino.[2]
Following Hurricane Katrina, Grand Casinos founder Tom Brosig came out of retirement and began looking for land to develop a casino, citing a desire to help rebuild the community. He settled on the Back Bay site where the Margaritaville Casino would ultimately open. According to Brosig, he nearly reached an agreement to use the Margaritaville brand in 2006.[3]Jimmy Buffett Margaritaville Casino Biloxi
Buffett instead joined with Harrah’s Entertainment in 2007 to begin construction on the $700-million Margaritaville Casino Resort on the site of the Casino Magic and Grand Casino,[4] which had both been destroyed by Katrina.[5] Buffett was partly motivated by a desire to help the region’s economic recovery from Katrina.[4] Construction was suspended, however, in 2008, due to the global financial crisis and Harrah’s near-bankruptcy after being taken private.[6]
Meanwhile, Brosig continued his efforts on the Back Bay site, but had difficulty raising financing due to the financial crisis and the Deepwater Horizon oil spill. He was eventually able to assemble a total investment of $63 million, with ’20 or 22’ equity investors. A 20-year agreement was reached for the Margaritaville brand.[3]
Buffett and Brosig unveiled their plans in 2011, describing a 68,000 sq ft (6,300 m2), $48-million Margaritaville Casino at the former East Harrison County Industrial Park, without the involvement of Harrah’s (now Caesars Entertainment).[7] Groundbreaking was expected in April 2011 with a construction time of 9 months.[8]
In March 2011, plans for the location won fast track approval from the city of Biloxi. On April 7, Buffett appeared before the Mississippi Gaming Commission and explained why the casino should be approved. Commissioners listened and then approved the project.[9]
On May 22, 2012, the Margaritaville Casino & Restaurant opened to the public, featuring 820 slot machines, 18 table games, two levels of dining decks, and a marina with waterside entertainment, food, and drinks.[10]
In June 2013, Margaritaville Biloxi became the first casino in Mississippi gaming history to offer outdoor gaming which includes three blackjack tables at LandShark Landing and Marina.Margaritaville Casino In Shreveport Bossier
In December 2013, Doug Shipley, President & CEO, announced that Margaritaville Biloxi would break ground on a new hotel facility in the spring with anticipated completion a year later. The new hotel would feature 250 rooms, including 170 deluxe guest rooms and 80 two- and three-bedroom suites. In July 2014, the casino announced that it would likely close by September, because of an unresolved dispute with the landlord that was blocking the financing needed to build the hotel.[11] On September 15, 2014, Margaritaville Biloxi officially closed.[12]
The property was listed for sale in 2015 with an asking price of $18 million.[13]

The government has now released its list of clinically vulnerable people who qualify for support during the coronavirus crisis. Supermarket bosses will have received this list and will be in the process of contacting their vulnerable customers to offer them priority booking for online shopping services. The latest information on Sainsbury’s blog says: ’We are giving our customers who are vulnerable priority access to our online home delivery service. So far we’ve been able to identify and prioritise hundreds of thousands of vulnerable people across the UK.
’The government have identified and shared with us the customers who they consider the most vulnerable, and we’re in the process of contacting these customers to offer them priority access to home delivery slots. You need to follow instructions from the text message or letter you received to register as vulnerable on the government’s website. If you didn’t get contacted, you can register at gov.uk, and then contact your GP to request a letter. If you haven’t been contacted by Sainsbury’s already, then you should be soon.

Tesco’s CEO Dave Lewis said: ’On Thursday, we were given an initial list of 110,000 clinically and socially isolated people by the Government. From these, we were able to match 75,000 existing customers and we’ve already contacted them to let them know we’re making home delivery slots immediately available to them. If you don’t currently have an account with Tesco but have received a letter from the NHS because you’re classified as clinically vulnerable, you can create an account on their website or call Tesco on 0800 917 7359. The store can then check if you are on the government’s list.Ocado

Morrisons is launching a telephone ordering service
The chain has introduced other measures to help vulnerable customers too. On March 23, the store launched a new range of food boxes containing grocery and household essentials for home delivery. There are five variations of food box, with prices ranging from £30 to £45.
Morrisons is also launching a customer call centre for orders to be taken over the phone so that people who do not shop online can still order food. In the meantime, their online shopping customer number is 0345 322 0000.
Supermarkets will start using government data to identify at-risk individuals and provide them with the supplies during the coronavirus outbreak.
Across the UK 1.5 million vulnerable people are isolating for 12 weeks in an attempt to slow the spread of Covid-19.
Retailers have been forced to adapt to ensure those unable to leave the house can get the provisions they need.
It has not yet been made clear what criteria will be in place to ensure that supplies get to the right people, but supermarkets have said they will start contacting them from the start of next week.
Supermarket Sainsbury’s has confirmed it is working with Government data to prioritise delivery slots for those most at risk.
While Asda said it has a ’dedicated team’ working with the Government and ’fellow supermarkets to ensure those people who have been identified as highly vulnerable get what they need’.
Asda has also introduced contactless drop-offs for home delivery customers.
Tesco has limited its online shoppers to a maximum of 80 items per order in a bid to ’get more orders on to each van’.
While Waitrose says it will start ’to proactively offer its elderly and vulnerable customers priority access’ to online delivery bookings from next week.
Elsewhere, Richard Walker - managing director of Iceland - said the company had ’done their best’ to restrict online delivery orders to the most vulnerable, but admitted new slots are being ’quickly snapped up’.
Speaking on BBC Radio 4’s Today programme, Mr Walker urged healthy people to go against the Government’s advice and visit shops in person to free up delivery slots because ’current demand vastly exceeds supply’.
Tesco issued a similar call, in a statement a spokesman for the supermarket said: ’We ask those who are able to safely come to stores to do so, instead of shopping online, so that we can start to free up more slots for the more vulnerable’.
Iceland boss Mr Walker said: ’I’d actually urge the opposite of the PM, in that, if you are healthy, not in a vulnerable category and adhere to social distancing guidelines, please do shop in store.
The Iceland boss added: ’That will enhance priority online for those who need it most.’
A number of retailers have seen similar unprecedented demand for online delivery shopping. On Friday morning, customers faced a 20 minute wait to access the Morrisons online shopping service.
The website queuing system showed 24,256 people were waiting to access the site.

Alongside the measures taken by retailers, Defra said it had advised local authorities ’to allow extended delivery hours to supermarkets’ so shelves can be restocked more quickly.
